Sediment

What it means in wine

Sediment can come from pigments, tannins, tartrates, lees, or unfiltered bottling. It is common in older reds and some minimally processed wines.

Why it matters

Sediment is not automatically a fault, but it can feel gritty and may be separated by careful pouring or decanting.
